“Sudden Date” with the Misis

June 3, 2023

He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord.

Proverbs 18:22

Recently, me and my wife, Rezy had a (sudden) date in a Thai resto in Singapore (shoutout to Sanoook Kitchen in Zhongshan Mall). In the past, what I would consider such a date a blessing when - we have good food, we have a good conversation - when all things happen according to plan.

However, everything we did that night was unplanned. We did not plan to go to a Thai restaurant to dinner. We did not plan to have dinner outside at all. She was supposed to be at work that day, but thankfully the Lord granted her leave for both of us to spend time with our brothers and sisters in the Lord in a BBQ fellowship during lunch (I know, lots of eating!). After resting in the evening, we decided to go out and spend time while looking for a place to eat - and thankfully the Lord ordered our day for us to enjoy! We had our delicious dinner, had a very delicious sticky rice mango dessert, and after that, had our time together with the Lord, reading John chapter 2 in the Pinoy Version.

I'm writing all these things for my future self (and those who may read this) to be a reminder, that not all good things come from plans fulfilled. Yes, it is good to plan and count the cost (Jesus teaches this about following Him), yet it is also good to let God at times direct our lives providentially, and open our eyes to appreciate His goodness to us. As I ate, I noticed, more than the good food, the good ambiance, the good things we were able to do, I noticed that God has given me a beautiful, lovely, wife - Rezy. I am thankful to God for Rezy, I pray nothing but the best for her, that she may grow more and more into Christlikeness, and that God will use me to be instrumental in her growth.

Yes, it is good to plan and count the cost (Jesus teaches this about following Him), yet it is also good to let God at times direct our lives providentially, and open our eyes to appreciate His goodness to us.

I thank God I have found my good thing - my wife. A gift from God, a gift undeserved, yet a gift leading to both growing responsibility and gratitude in my heart.
