Psalm 13

[1] How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever?

How long will you hide your face from me?

[2] How long must I take counsel in my soul

and have sorrow in my heart all the day?

How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

[3] Consider and answer me, O LORD my God;

light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,

[4] lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,”

lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken.

[5] But I have trusted in your steadfast love;

my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.

[6] I will sing to the LORD,

because he has dealt bountifully with me. (ESV)

My Father in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. You alone are glorious and holy, majestic in power, awesome in wisdom, abounding in steadfast love. Who am I that Thou should be mindful of me? I am but a speck in Thy bountiful universe. I am but a failure for my countless transgressions. I deserve to be forgotten.

Yet I cry out to Thee Lord with the psalmist, how long shall Thou forget me? I cry out not because of any presumptions I have about my worth, for apart from Thee I have none. I cry because Thou hast said in Thy uncompromising word, that Thou hast created me in Thy image, created me fearfully and wonderfully. Thou has said in Thy Word that if Thy eye is on the sparrow, I can be certain that Thou who knowest the number of my hair, know me and has Thy eye upon me.

Oh, Lord, do not forget me, do not give me over to my enemies, to my sins. Oh Lord, sin, when I thought I am victorious over it, crouches back once again and overpowers me. I have sinned. Forgive me. Do not forget me Lord, lest the enemy boasts that he has prevailed over the child under Thy care. Do not abandon me Oh Lord I pray. Save me, for I trust in Thy steadfast love.

Oh Lord, let my heart rejoice in Thy salvation, the salvation that Thou hast revealed in Christ, born of a virgin, born under the law. For who am I to be provided such bountiful dealings from Thee? Oh Lord, thank you for Thy forgiveness and cleansing. In Thee I am cleansed, In Thee oh Lord Jesus, I am forgiven. In Thee I am loved and victorious.

In Thee Oh Lord, I am remembered.

Amen.
